Land in the News, Not the Reviews
Landing a review for your book is good—it's kind of like an honest Amazon review on steroids that lists the good and the bad about your writing. While it will sell some copies of your book, it could also drive readers away.
Not only that, but book reviews usually appear at the end of the newspaper. And let's be honest, if you actually read them, most book reviews are pretty boring.
But the best move you can make as an author is to move your book out of the book review section and into the news.
Become an authority on a subject so the television news stations and newspapers seek you out for your opinion.
Selah is an an old Hebrew word that appears in the Old Testament book of Psalms. Most Hebrew scholars believe it means, "Stop and meditate." Please re-read the previous two paragraphs again, and then Selah.
If you’re a nonfiction author, you likely researched your book like few people. For instance, after ghostwriting the autobiography for my favorite African dictator earlier this year, I probably know more about him than almost anyone in the world.
Seriously.
If you write historical fiction, you probably researched the heck out of a time period. You’re likely an
authority on the subject.
But we’re just scratching the surface here.
Imagine media outlets seeking you out on your subject. When they cast you as an authority, and, by the way, you wrote a book about that topic, YOU WILL SELL BOOKS.
So how do you go about generating media attention?
Well, you're
going to need to attend the Illumify Writers Conference on October 7. Registration closes at midnight this Monday, so you only have three days—and the price shoots up to $99 on the last day.
Two-time Emmy award-winning broadcaster Neal Browne will be sharing how you can generate media attention. If you grew up in Denver, you watched him on 9News, back then, the local ABC affiliate.
There's nothing like learning from a media insider how to generate attention from the media.
He’ll also show
where to start and how to build your image through radio, podcasts, YouTube, and the like with, yes, a little work but without crushing your budget.
But you’ll only hear at one place:
