Why is your book
launch important? Let me count the ways.
Let's break down the reasons why your book launch strategy is essential, and the psychology behind them.
1. The Launch Window Is Your Golden Hour
Photographers love to take photos during the golden hour: the light is softer, warmer, and more magical (magical-er?).
Book launches have a golden hour, too.
When your book first releases, your community’s
curiosity spikes. People you haven’t heard from in years suddenly pop up in your notifications.
“Wait—you wrote a book? That’s amazing!”
You cannot manufacture this natural excitement at a later time. You gotta strike while the iron's
hot—because it will never be this hot again.
A strategic launch harnesses that emotion. It channels the goodwill, the pride, and the buzz into something productive: momentum.
Without strategy, that momentum fizzles out within days.
2. Publishing Is Only Half the Battle; Marketing Completes the Mission
If publishing a book is climbing the mountain, marketing is everything that happens after you reach the summit. You still need to plant your flag, make noise, and tell the world
you made it.
A lot of authors assume, If I publish it, readers will find it.
Unfortunately, books are not like Kevin Costner’s field of dreams. If you write it, they will not automatically come.
Algorithms do not reward silence.
Readers do not magically stumble upon new releases.
And readers won't purchase a book with few or no Amazon reviews.
But a launch strategy—executed well—creates visibility where there was none.
3. Repetition and Multi-Channel Exposure Actually Work
In our ADHD-saturated world, most people can barely remember where they left their glasses. Expecting them to buy your book
after one announcement is like expecting to learn French after one class.
Bonne chance avec ça (Good luck with that).
Psychology tells us people require multiple touchpoints before taking action. That's why advertisers
run the same commercial during every football game.
Your book deserves the same persistence.
A strategic launch repeats the message across platforms:
• Email
• Social media
• Podcast interviews
• Short videos
• Live events
•
Launch teams
• Media appearances
Repetition isn’t annoying. It’s necessary.
And when the messaging is thoughtful and authentic, it’s not only necessary but surprisingly enjoyable.
4. Your Community Wants to Help—They Just Need Instructions
I love this point!
One of the biggest surprises for authors is discovering how eager friends, colleagues, clients, and
even distant acquaintances are to celebrate their success.
Your community genuinely wants to champion your book.
They just don’t know how.
A launch team turns that
passive enthusiasm into active support.
Instead of vague well-wishing—“Let me know how I can help!”—a solid launch strategy provides a path your community can follow to support your book:
• Buy the book on launch day.
• Post a review.
• Share a social graphic.
• Invite others to read it.
• Attend the launch event.
When supporters know exactly what to do, they show up—often with more enthusiasm than you could’ve imagined.
